This term has been long and fun it has had so many activities that have made this term amazing. Here are the things we did this term.

  • This term we started doing mindfulness which is always after lunch every day and is a calming relaxing thing to do.
  •  The Batten team also started Global Play Sessions which are on Fridays and are a awesome fun session we play, create and paint from morning tea till lunch.
  • The Hillary hub and the Batten team learnt about eels and went to the heath-cote river and did activities we did things at school as well and we are all doing something to help the eels i'm making a poster with my friends Millie and Amy.
  • We also did a few days of korf ball ball which is similar to netball and basketball  and it came from the Netherlands. ( I didn't blog about because I wasn't there when we did.)
  • For caritas we made refugee shelters for the South Sudanese we had a donation and raised a lot of money. It was very fun and Millie, Mira, Amy and me made a very good house out of our cardboard boxes.
  • Room 4 had a couple of sessions with the spheros on the first day we drove the sphero around and started making something. On our second session we made little obstacle courses for them to go through.
There has been many other things we did but this is the exciting stuff.

Refugee camp day

Kia ora everyone!

Yesterday the 4th of April we did a refugee camp day. We did this for the people in South Sudan and raised lots of money. The whole Batten team did it for the South Sudanese.

Every one carried boxes to the field and put them down. Millie, Amy, Mira and me got a curtain and a big cardboard box. It took us a long time. We made a little door in the side of the box. But it we had to go and learn about eels and go to reconciliation, that's another story, then it was morning tea. After morning tea we learn more about eels then went back to constructing. We put the roof on which was just a curtain. But the roof kept falling off it was very annoying. Then we tried to make a table but it didn't work so we gave some cardboard to our neighbours (Lola, Molly and Mia). Then we put some cardboard under our hut and made a footpath out of it.

It was time to get rice. We got our bowls and lined up and got our rice half a cup. There was seconds and I lined up to get more. Then someone in our group made a washing thing put grass in it and our cardigans and pretended to wash our clothes.

The Rutherford team came and looked. We let some of them come inside. There were these two girls who screamed when the roof came off. We balanced bowls on our heads and got water in them. IT felt like with everyone's places it was a village. Mr Grant at the end went into our hut and wrecked it coming out because he was too big. Then at the end everyone packed up and cleaned everything like we were never there.

It was super fun and I want to do it again I hope the South Sudanese are happy we did this. Also I hope we raised a heap of money for South Sudan.

These are some photos.

Life In South Sudan Refugee Camp - Made Up Story

Good morning everyone

This is a made up story about life in South Sudan enjoy

Life In A Refugee Camp South Sudan
I just woke up and it is very dark and I could hardly sleep last night I need to get water today as well as helping mum at the market. It's very busy and cramped mums already at the market.

All my friends have started walking to the water pump dad gives me a container. I have started walking its very hot today but I have to go on. I start pumping the water into my container it's hard work. I'm walking home now the water is balancing on my head dad is very pleased i'm home very quickly.

I have to walk to the market now mum has sold 5 bottles of water and has earned a lot of money. Mum tells me to deliver the money to the man with with brown torn clothes and the black hat.

My dress has given up on me mum got me a new one which is really pretty. I thank everyone who donates clothes and food. Mum has earned enough to buy a bag of rice for us because we ran out of food yesterday. I spent the rest of the day outside playing a game with my friends.
